I've always seen Janos as a rogue vampire, dressed in a peasantway, making use of his stealth and night's cover to kill and feed on peasants (which, in Nosgoth, I agree they don't deserve otherwise). Seeing him like this in SR2 and BO2 was quite a surprise. He seems only to talk a lot, instead of displaying some real powers - like killing some peasants.
